Number one question people have asked me is if deciding to dedicate my life to Christ was hard. The answer to that is yes! The journey to being more like Christ is not easy, so many sacrifices have been made and continue to be made. I do fall back into temptation and I do feel like a failure sometimes. But the rewards from doing so have been wonderful. Aside from happiness and peace, it has given me a clear mind and motivation to just be overall a better me.
I am honored to share with you the top two things that can help you get closer to God. While the journey to spiritual growth is unique for everyone, there are two practices that can help you deepen your relationship with God.
The first is PRAYER. Prayer is a powerful way to communicate with God and express your gratitude, hopes, and concerns. Through prayer, you can invite God into your life and allow Him to guide you in your daily decisions. You can also ask God for forgiveness and seek His wisdom in difficult situations. Prayer can help you develop a deeper sense of trust and faith in God, and it can bring you comfort and peace during challenging times.
“We need to stop praying lengthy prayers that sound good and start praying prayers that sound real!” - Pastor Caleb Goins
Our prayers do not have to be routined and sound spiritual. They have to sound real and genuine. God already knows your heart and pain; he just wants you to admit them to him. He knows your worries and desires, he just wants you to share them with him and join him in the journey of conquering them. Our prayers also don’t have to be 3+ hours. Sometimes we got 5 mins and that's more than enough for him. The objective isn't to compete on prayers but to simply draw closer to him.
2 Hebrews 4:16 "Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need."
The second practice is studying the Bible. The Bible is the living Word of God, and it contains wisdom, guidance, and inspiration for all aspects of your life. By reading and studying the Bible, you can learn more about God's character, His plans for your life, and His love for you. You can also gain insights into how to live a Christ-centered life and face the challenges of the world with grace and strength.
I have to admit I am not consistent bible junkie when it comes to studying His word, but the times I do; I find so many answers. It gives us what we need to hear and the comfort in knowing who God is during the time of need.
I prefer to read it before bed, I like going to bed in peace and just full of encouragement. I really did try to be that 5 a.m. church girlie. But to be honest I love sleep and I love lazy sooo MAYBE the Lord can work in that area and eventually I have enough discipline to do so. Until then before bed is my reading time.
I have to be honest and say that the bible has a lot of references that can be used even modernly. Most affirmations can actually be found in the bible.!
Joshua 1:8 "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."
In summary, Prayer and Bible Study are two powerful ways to help you get closer to God. By incorporating these practices into your daily life, you can deepen your relationship with God and experience His love, peace, and guidance in new and meaningful ways.
I encourage you to dig deeper and not only communicate AKA Pray but read his text messages AKA his word ;)
